曾有一美国教授在去年元旦时就给我寄来贺卡，表示要我，在2月一号就收到了正式通知,
本人在三月底寄出接收函。今挥泪据之，何其恸哉！！幸其开明，已放我生路。下转录
该信，以其对有类似情况的同仁有用。

Dear ****,

Thank you for the very nice message letting us know that you will be
unable to accept our offer to study at *****. We realize that
each person needs to make the choice that is best for their life and
circumstances; however, we are sorry that you will not be coming to ****.

I do not need to have a formal letter stating that you decided not to
come.  I will attach your e-mail to the agreement when it arrives.
