Do you have to claim your luggage at Vancouver? I doubt so (unless
Vancouver->Chicago) is by a different airline.  I never took air canada,
but when I changed my plane at Tokyo it was very fast (just walked out
the plane with carry-on bags, went to another gate, waited for boarding etc)
I would suggest you to contact the airline directly and make sure it is
reasonable (every airport has a minimal time requirement for exchanges)
and if you are not able to catch your flight at Vancouver what they can do
for you.  Usually if it is the airline's fault (flight not on time, missing
transfer etc) that you have to stay overnight, they will provide you a hotel
room and compensate you with cash/coupon, unless you are taking Air China :)
So why don't you contact them and see what they say.
