PhD Research Studentship Lucas Varity Diesel Systems (UK) is working in
partnership with the
Advanced Instrumentation and Control Research Centre at the University of
Greenwich on an exciting
project dealing with digital imaging and analysis of shadowgraphs of sprays
in combustion engines. The
partnership has an immediate need for an ambitious research student with a
BEng degree and/or an MSc
degree to take a leading role in furthering the programme. The researcher
will be expected to register for
PhD by research, subject to satisfactory progress in the first 12 months. The
studentship carries a bursary
of 7,000 pounds (tax free) in sterling per year. There are no tuition fees
payable to the university. The
following key points will give you (and the candidates) some idea about the
research project: * Digital
imaging of shadowgraphs of sprays in a combustion engine; * Comparison of
digital images with polaroid
pictures and optimisation of the digital image quality; * Software
development for quantification of images
for local fuel concentration and fuel distribution in the spray; * Optical
technique development and
evaluation for droplet size measurement in common rail sprays. The candidates
should have
expertise/interest in software development, optical instrumentation and image
processing. Practical skills
are also important as the student has to operate optical (laser/CCD cameras)
systems, process sensors
and electronic equipment. Applicants should forward their CV's along with
