1. What is your purpose to the USA? / Are you going to study in the US?/
What are you going to do in the United States?
        I'm going to study psychology and pursue a PhD degree in
University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
    Why?
First of all, China is in good need of persons who majored in
quantitative psychology. But as I know, Quantitative psychology has not
developed much since many professors who majored in psychology have no
strong background of mathematics. But in States it is much more advanced
than that in China. I can get a better education in the USA so as to be
better prepared for my future career. So I decided to study quantitative
psychology for PhD in States. I plan to strengthen my ability in
statistics and psychology.
Secondly, I am sure after I graduate from UIUC and then go back to
China, I can find a good job and receive high salary. For example, I had
a chance to visit Gallop Consulting Company in my sophomore year. I
found most of the persons there were doctors. And most of them finished
their PhD in States and then go back to China. Mr. Zhang is one of them,
he can get thirty thousand dollars per year.
    To which university? Why do you go to this university?
1. UIUC is famous in the field of quantitative psychology. It is on top
3 in this area.
2. I have studied both psychology and economics in Peking University.
This July I will receive both Bachelor degrees in these two majors. My
future advisor, Professor Budescu is famous in decision making. This
need both psychology and economics' knowledge. For example, if you study
risk-taking behavior, you must know what is risk and what is the
principle of human behavior. So I am glad to find all I have studied in
psychology and economics would be useful in my future research. I would
like to be his student.
3. I have got fellowship from UIUC, not TA or RA. And psychology
department guarantees financial support for at least six years to all
continuing graduate students. So I am sure there is no financial problem
during my study in UIUC.

2. Why you study Ph.D. in US? Why don't you want to get your PHD in
China? Why will you want to get the Ph.D. degree in XX major? How do you
think the Ph.D. degree will benefit your future career in China? Why do
your want to study XX in US? What do you like to study most. Why? Why do
you want to study at US?
    Emphases on Ph.D. degree not major.
My dream is to be an excellent statistician in a famous company such as
Gallop. One of my friends, Mr. Zhang is an excellent statistician in
Gallop. I know he can get thirty thousand dollars per year. As I know,
if you want to be an excellent statistician you must get PhD. And
quantitative psychology is much more advanced in US than in China. So I
decided to pursue my Ph.D. degree in US.

background of this school? How do you know UIUC?
I often read professional journals such as Psychological Review,
Psychological Bulletin and American Psychologists. Because I am
interested in quantitative psychology, I pay more attention on the
papers of this field. Then I found several papers were written by the
professors in UIUC. Also I found on U.S. News' psychology rank UIUC was
on top 3, same as Yale and U of Michigan. So I noticed UIUC and decide
to apply for it.
    After I was admitted by UIUC, one of my teachers, Professor Zhang
Kan who has graduated from UIUC told me UIUC is one of the best
universities in this area. It is on top 3 in US. It has several
worldwide famous professors, such as Dr. Yates, Dr. Budescu, Dr.
Wasserman. Also, my future advisor, Professor Budescu is famous in
decision making. This need both psychology and economics' knowledge. For
