4. What is your academic background?
I would like to say that I have gained outstanding academic
achievements since the onset of my schooling. Each year my overall GPA
was always the top one in my department. I received high scores in
almost all courses. For example, I received full mark in Physiological
PSychology, 98 in Experimental Psychology. I am the ONLY person in our
department who received two fellowships EACH year.
5. Will you get a bachelor degree? Where? When? In which major? Why this
major?
Because it is the hottest area in the world now. And it is very
promising for the next century.
What are you studying now?
Have you graduated? When?
6. How much is your TOEFL score?
7. How long will your stay in US?
8. What will you plan to do after graduation?
I will go back to China and work as a statistician in a company.
My dream is to be an excellent statistician in a famous company such as
Gallop Consulting Company.
Give me three reasons that you will come back. Why do you want to go
back China after your PhD?
1. As a developing country, China is in good need of persons who majored
in quantitative psychology. If I can pursue PHD degree in quantitative
psychology in States and then go back to China to be a statistician, I
can receive high salary. For example, one of my friends, Mr. Zhang works
as a statistician in Gallop. He can get about thirty thousand dollars
per year. My dream is to be an excellent statistician as him.
2. Another important reason is that I was born in China, an eastern
country. There are many differences between eastern and western
countries. For example, It would be terrible for me to eat cheese and
hamburger everyday. I grow in China. I don't think I can be a real
American. So I would feel lonely and rootless all the time in US. Life
there would not be as happy as that in China. So I prefer to study in US
and then go back to find a job in China.
3. My parents are living in China. I know they are eager to let me study
in US because they believe it will be good to me in my future career.
But in fact, They need me to take care of them because they are not in
good health. They do not hope me to live in US for a long time. I cannot
image if they are too old to move and be in bed but I cannot take care
of them. It is so terrible! So I want to go back and take care of them.
9. Then can you explain why so many Chinese students do not come back?
I don't know clearly what others' consideration. But as I know, all of
persons who went to US to study went back to China finally. As for me, I
am sure I will come back.
h:Can you promise that you will not be attracted?
Many students...They all have family, have.... What's the difference
between you and them?
Maybe they pay more attention to comfortable life and more money. But I
pay more attention to family and social position. However, I don't know
others consideration.
10. What do you wish to study in your future graduate program?
I will choose to study decision-making behavior in my future
graduate program. Psychological research on judgment under uncertainty
has demonstrated that intuitive judgments of probability systematically
violate the calculus of chance. In particular, different descriptions of
the same event often give rise to systematically different judgments.
And the judged probability of the union of disjoint events is generally
smaller than the sum of judged probabilities of those events. Recently a
more formal model of judgment under uncertainty called support theory
has been developed. It accommodates such patterns and provides the
theoretical foundation for the present investigation. In particular,
support theory conceives of judged probability as the balance of
evidence favoring the hypothesis in question and the theory provides and
means of predicting judged probabilities from raw assessments of
evidence strength. Moreover, it seems that choices under uncertainty can
be predicted from judged probabilities that are consistent with support
theory. I wish I can further the theory of support theory to trace the
relationship between assessed strength of evidence, judged probability,
and choices under uncertainty.
