(Wed Jun 9 13:13:31 1999)
M: Good afternoon, Madam. Here are my materials.(塞进偶的材料)
Where are you working now?
M: Institute of xxxx, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
What are you working on?
M: I am working on project.(偶一时未找到合适的词)
What project?
M: A state key project.
磨女: (凑上前来,认真地说)What does the project deal with?(大意)
M: The project is used to help users acquire .....
How long will you stay in US?
M: four to five years.
磨女: Are you married?(扔出偶的材料)
M: yeah.(偶一看她在OF156表写什么,并留下护照,松了一口气)
M: Thanks.
(1)what is your academic background?/what's your major?/
what are you studying now?(ii)
A: I have been majoring and working in xxxx for xxx years.
*(2)how do you know this university?(iii)
A: My thesis advisor introduced this university to me. He was ever a visiting
scholar there.
*(3)why do you want to study in the US?(iii)
A: As the research and application of my intended field are more advanced
and better developed in USA than in China.
(4)why do you want to study in this university?(iii)
A: This is because I am very interested in their projects and my future
advisor is a master in his research field. Another important reason
is that my academic background matches their needs.
(5)why do you want to study this major?(iii)
A: I have been a computer fan for about 12 years since I was a high
school student. I have a strong academic background in this major.
and what's more, I am interested in it.
*(6)why do you want to study for Ph.D.?(iii)
A. I want to better myself and equip myself with higher competence
than other peers in China.
(7)why don't you want to get your Ph.D. in China?(iii)
A. As the research and application in my intended field are
more advanced and better developed in US than in China.
(8)what will you plan to do after graduation?
A. I will return to my country to be a research scientist in my
current Institute.
(9)why do you want to go back to China after graduation?
A. 1. A PhD degree granted by a famous USA university is highly respected
in China. So it is very easy for me to find a decent and well paid
job in China, and the future chances for promotion are also good.
2. As China is developing, the future chances and challienges in my
intended field will be more exciting than those in USA.
3. I love my parents and my sibling, who are all living in China. I
cann't imagine I could lead a happy life without my family supporting
me and sharing my pleasure and joy.
(10)why won't you stay in the US?
A. US is a very nice country, but it is not a land that everyone wants to
live there. The primary reason for I come back to China is that it is
difficult for a me to achieve my life goal in USA, which includes high
social position and respectable social status.
(11)You can also make more of this kind of money in US,
why don't you want to earn more?
A. Yes. mabe I can earn more if I would stay in USA. But money is not
the sole stuff we live for. A sense of self-achievement is very
important for one person, which include high social position and
respectable career. All these are difficult for a Chinese to achieve
in USA.
(12)How can you explain 90% Chinese students won't be back to china?
A. Every one is a particular case. I think maybe there are thousands of
reasons for their not returning, but none of them suitable for me.
There are stronger reasons for me to return to China to pursue my dream
and ambition, which is: a successful self-achievement, a meaningful
career and a decent life.
