我去加洲理工读数学，原来以为签证只是走走过场，不会有什么问题。
却没想到会被搞的那么狼狈，差点给据了。

给我签证的是一个美国中年男子，高鼻梁，穿一件蓝色衬衫。
过程如下：I,我；O,签证官。

I: Good morning, Sir. （递上材料，签证官接过）This is my materia.
O: ************* Caltech? (估计是问学校）
I: Yes.
O: They give you *****? （把I-20表拿近窗口，指着资助的那一栏）
I: Yeah.
O: Why do they give you offer?
I: Because of my excellent achivement.
O: （看了看我的材料，只看了TG成绩（并不好），没看成绩单）
   Where do you study?
I: Nankai University.
O: What's your major?
I: Mathematics.
O: In what aspect **********?
I: Functional Analysis.
O: Can you say something about it?(转头在电脑里敲了些什么）
I: Functional Analysis is a kind of mathematics. It deals with
   Banach space and Hilbert space.
O: （打断我的话）How can it be used?
I: It can be used in many branches of mathematics and physics.
O: Can it be used on weapons?
I: （没听说过，不知道他的标准答案是什么）En...
O: （突然改用中文）我问你这是军用还是民用？
I: 民用。
O: 你能举几个例子说明它是怎么用的吗？你可以用中文回答。
I: （心里发慌，我从来也没想过我的学科在实际中的具体应用，我只考虑过
   它在别的数学中的用处，因为那是纯理论的。我决定还是用英语回答。）
   It can not be used directly. It can be used on other mathematics.
O: 比如说它可以用来做炮弹吗？
I: （会不会真有什么用处？）I don't know. Maybe it can be used.
O: 你具体做的是什么方面？
I: The stucture of Banach space.
O: 它到底有什么用处？能不能举一两个例子说明一下。
I: It can be used on mathematics. It cannot be used directly.（有点
   语无伦次了，背后冒冷汗。）It is very pure. It is fundamental.
O: 比如它在原子弹上有没有用？
I: （很坚决地）No, it has no use on nuclear weapon.
O: （不再坚持，开始旁敲侧击）Why do you choose Caltech?
I: Because it has a strong math graduate program. It ranks top ten
   among all US universities in mathematics.
O: What will you do after you graduate?
I: I will come back to do some teaching and research work.
O: Where?
I: In a famous university.
O: Give me an example.
I: For example, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University.
O: How much will you earn?
I: One thousand or two thousand yuan a month.（可能说的太少了）
   I can not say exactly how much I will earn after five years.
O: 你为什么选择这个工作？
I: （又没有用又没有钱，为什么呢？）因为我喜欢做研究工作。
O: 你的导师叫什么名字？
I: * * *
O: 他做的是什么工作？
I: The stucture of Banach space.
O: （不再说什么，转头去写了什么）
I: （喘了一口气）Thank you! （转念一想，他还没签我呢）
O: （递给我一张小纸片，听不清说了什么，不过我知道肯定过了）
I: Thank you!

回想起来，可能是因为加州理工有航空背景，而我的学科有space这样的关键
词才被问了那么多。劝告各位在签证前最好给自己的专业想一个具体的用途，
以免答不上来引来麻烦。
