6/18/99 I got visa successfully. The following is the
dialog between me and the American Male Officer(AMO):

AMO: Hi, nice to see you
hyang: Hi, sir
AMO: Could you show me.....
hyang: These are my documents.
AMO: Thank you.

AMO see the materials for ten seconds

AMO: So you will study in Eletrical Engineering in U
of Delaware as a PhD candidate?
hyang: Yeah, Electrical Engineering.
AMO: What specific area will you study on.
hyang: I will study on Computer Engineering, Digital
and Computer System Lab. I will focus on Programming
Language Design & Implementation.
AMO: What will you do after you return to China?
hyang: I will work as a professor in universities to
do some research and instruction.
AMO: Research on what area?
hyang: The same area as my graduate studies.

AMO see the materials for ten seconds

AMO: What is the unit you are currenly working in
China?
hyang: Insitute of Computing Technology, Chinese
Academy of .....
AMO: Could you say its Chinese name?
hyang: 中国科学院，计算技术研究所
AMO: Does this unit own supercomputers?
hyang: No, we work on commercial products.
AMO: Will your future research direction relates to
supercomputer?
hyang(very sure): No.
AMO: Did you ever work on supercomputer before?
hyang(very sure): No.

It seems that still he doubts my answer. But I think
I will not meet problems if I continue answering "NO"
on "supercomputer".

AMO: You have ever been in America before?
hyang: (Some problem occur on my listening comprehension,
I have heard it clearly, although I know that he is
asking a very simple question. So I want to ask
"Pardon?" but he doesn't give me this opportunity).
AMO: (say in Chinese) 泥刀过梅国吗?
hyang: Yeah.
AMO: in which year?
hyang: 1995. I attended a cooperating project with
Motorola.
AMO: Oh, Motorola.

Maybe this fact that I ever attended cooperating project
with Motorola assur him that I am actually working on
commercial products. He yielded at last.

AMO: Please go to window ten.
hyang: Thank you.

In my view, it is true that visa is easy to apply these
days. Maybe after the demonstration against America's
"accidental" bombing CH Ambassy at Yugoslavia, American
come to understand that "China, as a nation, shall not
be conquered. Chinese people shall not be humilated",
as said by President Jiang. And as said by other net
friends, AMO is a very good man, he may ask you a lot
of questions, but he will not do things illogicly or
unreasonably.
